Endpoint:
water solubility
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
Not specified
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: see 'Remark'
Remarks:
Study conducted in accordance with generally accepted scientific principles, possibly with incomplete reporting or methodological deficiencies, which do not affect the quality of the relevant results. The analytical method used likely involved derivatization to the tetra-alkylated species, which only provides information on the amount of alkyltin moiety (i.e., TBT) present.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 105 (Water Solubility)
Deviations:
not specified
GLP compliance:
not specified
Type of method:
flask method
Key result
Water solubility:
75.8 mg/L
Temp.:
20 °C
pH:
4.21
Details on results:
An average value for the solubility of the test material of 75.8 ± 1.0 mg/L was obtained from the two independent runs.

Standard Deviation ( Std.Dev.) of the mean value: s = 2.5
The repeatability of the runs deviates by less than 4 per cent and fulfils the required condition for repeatability <15 per cent for the elution method.

Std.Dev. 3 2.4
Conclusions:
Under the conditions of this study the water solubility of the test material was determined to be 75.8 mg/L, which can be interpreted as slightly soluble.
Executive summary:

In accordance with the OECD Guideline No. 105, the flask method was used for the determination of the water solubility of the test material.

Under the conditions of this study the water solubility of the test material was determined to be 75.8 mg/L, which can be interpreted as slightly soluble.

Description of key information

In accordance with the OECD Guideline No. 105, the flask method was used for the determination of the water solubility of the test material.

Under the conditions of this study the water solubility of the test material was determined to be 75.8 mg/L, which can be interpreted as slightly soluble.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
75.8 mg/L
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

Ventur D (1988) was selected as the key data source for the solubility of the test material in water as the test was performed in accordance with OECD 105. The analytical method used likely involved derivatisation to the tetra-alkylated species, which only provides information on the amount of alkyltin moiety (i.e., TBT) present. Although this method is limited as it can only detect the alklyltin moeity, it is currently the most effective method for measuring organotin compounds, therefore a reliability rating of 2 was assigned to this study, according to the criteria of Klimisch, 1997.

For the ATSDR (2005) report a reliability rating of 4 was assigned to this study, according to the criteria of Klimisch, 1997 as this information is from a secondary source: Insoluble in cold water (< 0.1 mg/L)
