The biodegradability of cis-cycloocten was evaluated by Hüls (1996) and Hüls (1998) . Both results indicate that this substance is not ready biodegradable. However the study conducted by Hüls AG (1996) showed a 28% degradation after 28 days. Therefore, althouhg not ready biodegradable according to the guideline requirements, the Z-cyclooctene can be metabolized by microorganism.

On the other hand, it is highly improbale that Z-cyclooctene reach the water, the soil or sediments in significant amounts since it is manufactured and used under dry conditions in closed systems. Even in case that the substance would reach the environment, the Mackay level I calculations indicate that soil and water/sediment systems are not the target compartment since the substance wouldbe distributed to the atmosphere at > 99%. Furthermore the substance fulfills the Biowin criteria stated by ECHA for not persistent substances.

Therefore, for all the reasons stated above, although the substance is not ready biodegradable, it is not expected to accumulate on the environment .
