Additional information

cis-Cyclooctene is a cycloalkene with an eight-membered ring. Its most stable conformer is shaped like a crown ether with alternating equatorial and axial hydrogens very much like the chair conformation of cyclohexane.

cis-Cyclooctene is a colourless liquid with a mouldy odour at ambient temperature and pressure.

Melting/ freezing point at 101 325 Pa: -15.8 ºC

Boiling point at 101 325 Pa: 145.6 ºC

Relative density at 20 ºC: 0.8477

Vapour pressure (at 20 ºC): 9.9 hPa

Partition coefficient n-octanol/water (Kow) at 25 ºC: log Kow = 5.0

Water solubility (20 ºC): 3 mg/l

Surface activity is not a desired property of the material and is not expected based on structure.

Flash point at 101 325 Pa (Abel method, closed cup): 23.5 ºC

Autoflammablility / self-ignition temperature: 245 ºC at 100 200 Pa

Explosiveness: non explosive

Based on the chemical structure, the substance is incapable of reacting exothermally with combustible materials.

The stability of the substance is not considered to be critical.

No significant dissociation is expected at environmental or physiological pH values and beyond.
