Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Administrative data

Endpoint:
explosive properties of explosives
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance contains chemical groups associated with explosive properties which include oxygen, but the calculated oxygen balance is less than - 200
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
Based on its structure, it cannot be excluded that the substance has explosive properties.

According to the regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures, if a chemical contains chemical groups associated with explosive properties, a substance is not classified as explosive when the calculated oxygen balance is less than -200.
OXYGEN BALANCE:

OB = - 1600 * (2x + (y/2) -z)/MW

where:
x = 33
y = 32
z = 3
MW = 592.72

Therefore, the OB of the Substance = - 213 < to the cut-off limit value of 200.

CONCLUSION
With an oxygen balance < 200, the Substance does not meet the criteria for classification as explosive.
