Description of key information

In water, BMH hydrolyses into two compounds, being 3-Hydroxy-2 -naphthoic acid, hydrazine (HNH; CAS no. 5341-58-2) and Methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK; CAS no. 108-10-1), with a DT50 of 28 hours under environmentally relevant conditions.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Half-life for hydrolysis:
28 h
at the temperature of:
25 °C

Additional information

BMH is hydrolytically unstable (half-life time at 25°C < 1 day) in aqueous solutions buffered at pH 4. At pH 7, the half-life times of BMH are 3.91 hours (50°C) and 8.93 hours (39°C). From these values the half-life time at 25°C in aqueous solutions buffered at pH 7 was calculated to be 27.9 hours. At pH 9, the half-life times of BMH are 9.15 hours (60°C) and 1.15 hours (80°C). From these values the half-life time at 25°C in aqueous solutions buffered at pH 9 was calculated to be 669 hours (27.8 days).
