Description of key information

There is no Guideline test on aquatic bioaccumulation of the substance available. The bioconcentration factor was estimated according QSAR models described in the Technical Guidance Document on Risk Assessment (EC 2003, part II, chapter 3, p. 126). Applying the calculated log Pow of -0.043 for 3,3’- Methylene-bis [5-methyl-oxazolidine], the main constituent of the substance, the BCF(fish) value is calculated to be 0.18 L/kg. However, this value has to be used with caution as the QSAR is only valid for higher log POW values. As a worst case approach a log POW of 1 is used. According to the QSAR developed by Veith et al. (1979) a BCF(fish) of 1.41 L/kg is calculated. Due to these results, the substance and its constituents are not expected to accumulate in biota.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Considering the calculated BCF(fish) no accumulation in biota is expected. Furthermore, the constituents of the reaction product (substance) hydrolyse in aqueous media. Thus, experimental determination of the bioaccumulation in aqueous media is not possible. Therefore, a test on bioconcentration of the substance or its constituents in aquatic organisms is scientifically not justified. The available data are supposed to be sufficient.
