Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

partition coefficient
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
March 2021
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
according to guideline
OECD Guideline 117 (Partition Coefficient (n-octanol / water), HPLC Method)
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Type of method:
HPLC method
Partition coefficient type:
Analytical method:
high-performance liquid chromatography
Key result
log Pow
Partition coefficient:
25 °C
Remarks on result:
other: HPLC method used, due to instability of substance in water
Details on results:
Six reference substances were used. The values for log k and log POW of the reference items are :
Compound log k log Pow
2-Butanone -0.4817 0.3
Benzyl alcohol -0.2300 1.1
Acetophenone -0.0051 1.7
Nitrobenzene 0.1317 1.9
Benzene 0.3659 2.1
Toluene 0.6333 2.7

Capacity Factor, log Capacity Factor, log Pow Test Item
Measurement k log k log Pow
Measurement 1 0.7430 -0.1290 1.213
Measurement 2 0.7407 -0.1304 1.210
Measurement 3 0.7407 -0.1304 1.210
Mean 1.211
Relative Standard deviation 0.002
The correlation log k/log Pow is good: the coefficient of determination r2 was calculated with 0.959. This value was considered as sufficiently high to use the calibration function for the determination of the log POW of the test item 10-(2,5-Dihydroxyphenyl)-10H-9-oxa-10- phospha-phenantbrene-10-oxide (DOPO-Hydroquinone).
Although area is not necessarily correlated to absolute concentration if UV detection is used, it is assumed that the test item 10-(2,5-Dihydroxyphenyl)-10H-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenantbrene-10-oxide (DOPO-Hydroquinone) consists mainly of one peak, indicating that the log Pow should be regarded as 1.2 ± 0.0 (mean ± standard deviation) at the temperature of 25.0 ± 1°C.
Executive summary:

The log Pow calculated for DOPO-HQ using HPLC method was found to be 1.2at the temperature of 25.0 ± 1°C.
