Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Taking into account the lack of biodegradation in a ready biodegradation test, the substance 5 -amino-o-cresol is considered as potentially persistent or very persistent on the basis of screening criteria.

At environmental pH, the log Kow of the substance 5 -amino-o-cresol is 0.53. This low log Kow indicates that the substance has hydrophilic properties and is not considered as bioaccumulable or very bioaccumulable.

The chronic toxicity data assessed on daphnia (reproduction test) and on algae (inhibition of the growth) are higher than 0.1 mg/L and the acute toxicity on fish is higher than 1 mg/L. Therefore is not considered as toxic on the basis of these aquatic toxicity results. The substance is neither classified as carcinogenic (cat. 1A or 1B), nor germ cell mutagenic (Cat. 1A or B), nor toxic for the reproduction (cat. 1A, 1B or 2). It is not classified as "Specific Target Organ Toxicity Repeated Exposure category 1 or 2". So the substance 5 -amino-o-cresol is not considered as Toxic.

The substance 5-amino-o-cresol is potentially P/vP, however it is neither B/vB, nor Toxic. Therefore 5-amino-o-cresol is Not PBT and Not vP/vB.

Likely routes of exposure:

Based on its physical-chemical properties, which are a very high water solubility, a low vapor pressure, a low log Kow and a low log Koc, the substance 5-amino-o-cresol will be found mainly in the aquatic environment when released to the environment.
