Additional information

No data for aquatic toxicity are available for the target substance Phosphorodithioic acid, O,O-di-dodecyl-esters, zinc salts, neutral and basic (CAS No.4563-56-8). Therefore, a read-across approach has been applied. In accordance with Annex XI, 1.5, of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006. Aquatic toxicity data of the structurally similar source substance was used to fulfill the standard information requirements set out in Annex VIII.

Zinc bis[O,O-bis(2-ethylhexyl)] bis(dithiophosphate) (CAS 4259-15-8) was selected as a source substance. Target and source substance are similar in their molecular structures and contain the same functional groups. Furthermore both substances have a moderate water solubility (150 mg/L and 9.1 mg/L respectively) and non-volatile due to low vapour pressure (<4.0 x 10-2 Pa at 20 °C for the target and 4.2 x 10-4 Pa at 25 °C for source). The table below presents an overview of the aquatic ecotoxicity profile for the source substances Zinc bis[O,O-bis(2-ethylhexyl)] bis(dithiophosphate) (CAS 4259-15-8). The available data show L(E)C50 values above 1 mg/L for all three trophic levels (i.e. fish, invertebrates and algae).

Long-term data are available towards toxicity to algae for the source substance Zinc bis[O,O-bis(2 -ethylhexyl)] bis(dithiophosphate) (CAS 4259 -15 -8). The NOELR of 220 mg/L (nominal) is available for the algae. There are no further data on the long-term toxicity on fish. Inhibitory effects towards aquatic microorganisms were observed, the EC50 was determined at 380 mg/L. Based on the available aquatic toxicity data of the source substance, the target substance is not expected to exhibit effects of acute aquatic toxicity on aquatic organisms up to the limit of water solubility.
