Additional information

Experimental data are available for the assessment of the ready biodegradability of the substance. In an OECD 301B (CO2 Evolution test) propylenediamine (CAS 78-90-0) was degraded to 77% after 28 days (CO2 evolution, BASF SE, 2021). Activated domestic sludge was used as inoculum in this study.Additionally, in a batch test according to OECD 302B using industrial activated sludge as inoculum, the substance was easily eliminated from water after an adaptation phase (80% DOC removal after 18 d; BASF AG, 1977a; report no. 959151/17). In a second batch, which was performed with the inoculum of the previous test (= adapted), the removal was 91% in 7 days (BASF AG, 1977b; report no 959151/17). In both cases the DOC removal was mainly by biodegradation based on the shape of the degradation curve. Overall, it can be concluded that based on the available experimental data, propylenediamine is considered to be readily biodegradable.
