Zinc bis dimethyldithiocarbamate (CAS No. 137-30-4) is highly toxic to aquatic organisms. Both acute and chronic exposure to aquatic organisms caused lethal and/or sub-lethal effects at all trophic levels tested in the laboratory (fish, aquatic invertebrates, algae and microorganisms). Fish species showed the highest sensitivity to the substance under short term and chronic exposure conditions (LC50 (96 h) = 9.7 µg/L and NOEC = 24 µg/L, respectively). The substance caused immobilisation and reproduction-related toxicity in acute and chronic toxicity studies with aquatic invertebrates resulting in an EC50 (48 h) of 206 µg/L (mean measured) and a NOEC (21 d) of 78 µg/L (mean measured). Growth inhibition studies with algae resulted into an ErC10 (72 h) of 65.8 µg/L and an ErC10 (72 h) of 94 µg/L (both geom. mean measured). Furthermore, inhibitory effects were observed in aquatic microorganisms’ respiration (EC50 (3 h) = 19.2 mg/L). All key studies were conducted according to appropriate guidelines and GLP conditions.

An assessment on endocrine disrupting potential is ongoing during the renewal (AIR) process under regulation(EC) No 1107/2009, a final outcome is currently not available.
