Description of key information

Several data (calculation method or handbook) are available:
- 1955 mg/L and 5316 mg/L at 25°C from a validated calculation method (Episuite v4, WSKOW v1.41)
- 2850 mg/L at 25°C from literature source (Yalkowski 1992)
- 2419 mg/L at 15°C from a review article or an handbook (Merck&Co 2006)
- and other data coming from calculation method or secondary literrature : 2343 mg/L (15°C), 2744 mg/L (40°C), 5304 mg/L, 3446 mg/ml

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
1 955 mg/L

Additional information

No full report of experimental study is available for the water solubility of heptanoic acid.

As the applicability of the EPIWIN program ( WSKOWWIN v1.41) for the estimation of water solubility values of heptanoic acid has been demonstrated, this calculated value is considered acceptable and its reliability is considered as "2".

This estimated water solubility values (1955 -5316 mg/L) are consistent with the experimental data reported in the experimental data base of the model Episuite (Yalkowski) and other literature data.

These several values between 1955 mg/L and 5316 mg/L indicate that heptanoic acid is soluble in water.
