Additional information

A flash point value of 45°C at 1013 hPa was determined for the substance using a rapid equilibrium method in accordance with ISO 3679 test method and in compliance with a known quality system (ISO 9001:2008) (Haas 2012). In Dow Corning Corporation 2012, a flash point value of 100°C at 1013 hPa was obtained for the substance using a closed-cup method in accordance with EU Method A.9 but not in compliance with any known quality systems.

In available secondary sources to which reliability could not be assigned, flash point values of 82°C at 1013 hPa (Momentive 2007) and approximately 109°C at 1013 hPa (Evonik 2008) were reported for the substance.

 

Variations in the flash point values may be caused by differences in purity of the test substance and in the test method used. In particular, the presence of higher concentrations of volatile impurities such as ethanol; a hydrolysis product of the substance, can result in lower flash point values. The reliable values are taken as part of a weight of evidence approach. Individual companies will classify their products according to the flash point data specific to their substance.

 

A flash point of 45°C indicates the substance should be classified as a flammable liquid Category 3; flash points of 82°C, 100°C and approximately 109°C indicate that the substance should not be classified as a flammable liquid according to the criteria of Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
