Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

One key study performed with tert-butyl cumyl peroxide is available for each of the following endpoints:

Acute toxicity to fish

The acute toxicity to fish of tert-butyl cumyl peroxide was assessed according to the OECD Guideline 203 and GLP requirements: LC50_96h was determined as 2.17 mg/L based on geometric means of measured concentrations.

Acute toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

The acute toxicity (inhibition of mobility) of the test item tert-butyl cumyl peroxide to aquatic invertebrates for a duration of 48 hours was assessed according to the OECD Guideline 202 and GLP requirements. Daphnia magna were exposed under static conditions: 48h-EC50= 4.3 mg/L

Chronic toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

The chronic toxicity to aquatic invertebrates was assessed according to the OECD Guideline 211 and GLP requirements. The lowest NOEC was observed for the mean number of neonates produced per surviving parent. This value of NOEC for the test item was 168.9 µg/L, expressed as geometric means of measured concentrations.

Toxicity to algae

The determination of the growth inhibition of the freshwater algae Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata exposed to the test item tert-butyl cumyl peroxide for a duration of 72 hours was assessed according to the OECD Guideline 201: no toxicity was observed at the highest tested concentration i.e. 100 mg/L (nominal concentration).

Toxicity to microorganisms

There is no test performed with tert-butyl cumyl peroxide to assess the toxic effects on microorganisms. The toxicity was estimated in a ready biodegradability study performed according to OECD 301F guideline and GLP requirements with the results obtainedin the toxicity control flasks: the test item is not inhibitory for inoculum at the 100 mg/L concentration (NOEC = 100 mg/L, nominal concentration).
