Description of key information

Acute oral toxicity of 2-aminobutanol in the Rat

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Acute toxicity: via oral route

Endpoint conclusion
Dose descriptor:
LD50
Value:
1 800 mg/kg bw

Additional information

The LD50 of DL 2 -aminobutanol in the rat is approximately 1800 mg/kg bw. There was no indication of the cause of death reported in the study.

There is no data available on the dermal and inhalation toxicity of 2 -aminobutanol. Due to the corrosivity of the substance this endpoint is waived according to the criteria in Column 2 of the REACH text, Annex VIII

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the Oral LD50 value, 2 -aminobutanol should be considered to be Harmful (R22) according to the dangerous substances directive, and Acute toxicity Category 4 according to GHS.

No classification for Dermal toxicity is proposed based on read across and the likelyhood that were such a test performed, the LD50 would be in excess of 2000 mg/kg bw.
