First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures:

General advice: Remove soiled or soaked clothing immediately Strong influence of the product specially on the skin or respiratory tract requires medical attention. In case of breathing difficulties, give oxygen

If inhaled: When inhaled remove to fresh air and seek medical aid.

In case of skin contact: In case of contact with skin wash off immediately with plenty of water. Start medical treatment immediately

In case of eye contact: In case of contact with eyes rinse thoroughly with plenty of water and seek medical advice

If swallowed: Summon a doctor immediately.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

Symptoms: Methaemoglobinemia Cyanosis

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed

Treatment: Treat symptomatically. When swallowed, if necessary flush stomach. Keep under medical supervision, even if no symptoms are occurring.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media:

Suitable extinguishing media: Dry powder. Carbon dioxide.

Unsuitable extinguishing media: Water. Foam.

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture:

In case of fires, hazardous combustion gases are formed: Carbon monoxide (CO). Nitrogen oxides (NOx) Hydrogen fluoride (HF)

Advice for firefighters:

Special protective equipment: Use self-contained breathing apparatus. Wear full protective suit.

Further information: Collect contaminated firefighting water separately, must not be discharged into the drains. Fire residues and contaminated firefighting water must be disposed of in accordance with the local regulations.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures:

Remove persons to safety. Protection through wearing of tightly closed chemical protection suit and a self-contained breathing apparatus. If ventilation insufficient, use a respiratory protection apparatus.

Environmental precautions:

Contain contaminated water/firefighting water Do not discharge into the subsoil/soil. Do not allow to enter drains or waterways.

Methods and materials for containment and cleaning up:

General advice: Take up with absorbent material (eg sand, kieselguhr, universal binder)

Pick for disposal in tightly closed containers

When picked up, treat material as prescribed under heading "Disposal".

Information regarding Safe handling, see chapter 7. Information regarding personal protective measures see, chapter 8. Information regarding Waste Disposal, see chapter 13.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling:

Advice on safe handling (industrial scale): Provide sufficient air exchange and/or exhaust in work rooms. Ensure that the workplace is kept clean and dry Do not leave containers open Use as possible totaly enclosed apparatus. Transfer and handle only in enclosed systems. Prevent falling Avoid spilling, spraying or splashing Avoid all contact with product

Advice on protection against fire and explosion: Keep away from open flames, hot surfaces and sources of ignition. No welding in the workroom

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:

Requirements for storage rooms and vessels: Provide retaining basin. Provide floor trough without outlets. Use containers made of Polyethylene.

Further information on storage conditions: Keep container tightly closed in a well-ventilated place. Keep container dry Protect from light. Protect from exposure to air/oxygen. Protect from atmospheric moisture and water Do not store at temperatures above 25 °C.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Personal protection equipment

(IMPORTANT: to be adapted following the workplace risk assessment.)

General protective measures: Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Do not inhale vapours It is essential for pregnant women to avoid inhaling the product and not to let it come in contact with the skin. A workplace risk assessment must be carried out in order to determine the correct engineering control measures and personal protective equipment. Protective clothing should be selected specifically for the working place, depending on concentration and quantity of the hazardous substances handled. The resistance of the protective clothing to chemicals should be ascertained with the respective supplier.

Industrial workplace

Respiratory protection: Multi-purpose filter ABEK Self-contained (insulating equipment) breathing apparatus

Hand protection: In splash contact: Nitrile rubber gloves. Glove material : Camatril® (KCL) Layer thickness : 0,4 mm Break through time: > 10 min

in full contact: Butyl rubber gloves. Glove material : Butyl rubber Layer thickness : 0,70 mm Break through time: > 480 min

The protective gloves to be used must comply with the specifications of EC directive 89/686/EEC and the resultant standart EN374. This recommandation applies only to the product stated in this safety data sheet and supplied by us as well as to the purpose specified by us. When dissolving in or mixing with other substances and under conditions deviating from those stated in EN374 please contact the supplier of CE-approved gloves.

Eye/face protection: tightly fitting safety glasses

Body Protection: Protective clothing

Additional advice on system design: Use under strictly controlled conditions.

Hygiene measures: Do not eat, drink or smoke during work time. Remove soiled or soaked clothing immediately. Store work clothing separately. Wash hands before breaks and after work.

Laboratory

Respiratory protection: Handling in a fume cupboard.

Hand protection: In splash contact: Ntrile rubber gloves.

Eye/face protection: Safety glasses with side protection shield.

Body Protection: Dedicated working clothes.

Hygiene measures: Wash hands before breaks and at the end of workday.

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity: No decomposition if used as directed.

Chemical stability: No decomposition if stored normally.

Possibility of hazardous reactions: Autocatalytic decomposition. Reactions with strong acids. Reactions with strong oxidising agents.

Conditions to avoid: No data available.

Incompatible materials: None known.

Hazardous decomposition products: Hydrogen fluoride (HF) Nitrogen oxides (NOx)

Disposal considerations

Product: In accordance with local authority regulations, take to special waste incineration plant Harmful emissions must be removed by flue gas scrubbing
