Description of key information

The short-term toxicity of the substance to aquatic invertebrates was examined in a study according to OECD TG 202 and in compliance with GLP (Huntingdon, 1994). In this study Daphnia magna (2 replicates of 10 animals per concentration) were exposed to the substance at nominal concentrations of 0 (control),0.10, 0.18, 0.32, 0.56, 1.0, 1.8, 3.2, 5.6 and 10 mg/L for 48 under static conditions. The test compound was dispersed in 10% Tween 80 acetone to give an initial stock solution of 100 mg/mL and subsequent dilution of this stock with 10% Tween 80 acetone gave a series of stock solutions from which the desired test exposure levels were prepared. Test substance analysis was performed at the start and at the end of the test, and geometric mean measured concentrations were calculated to be 0, 0.08, 0.15, 0.28, 0.48, 0.85, 1.7, 2.8, 5.0 and 11 mg/L. After 24 and 48 hours exposure daphnia mobility was recorded, and percentage immobility determined. The validity criteria of the test were met.

No effect on mobility was observed up to a test concentration of 0.15 mg/L. At test concentrations of 0.28, 0.48, 0.85 and 1.7 mg/L cumulative immobilities were 15, 10, 20, and 45%. At test concentrations of 2.8 mg/L and higher all animals were immobilised. Based on these findings, the 48 -h EC50 was determined at 1.3 mg/L (95% C.I. 1.0 - 1.6 mg/L), based on geometric mean measured concentrations.
