First Determination

As the mean surface tensions obtained with trials 1 and 2 do not differ by more than 0.5 mN/m, no additional trial is needed.

The mean value of 50.6 mN/m is retained for final result.

Conclusions:
According to EU A5 criteria, as the result is below the threshold value of 60 mN/m, the substance is considered to have surface-active potential under the experimental conditions.
Executive summary:

The surface tension of the test substance was measured under GLP according to OECD 115/EU A5 guidelines, using the ring method.

The apparatus was calibrated with a mass.

Two determinations were performed, on two indepenent solutions prepared by diluting saturated solutions to 90%. Actual concentrations were not checked. Their surface tension was then determined from five consecutive consistent measurements. The final result was the mean of two consistent determinations.

The surface tension of the test solution (ca 45.3 mg/L) at 20.4°C was 50.6 mN/m.

Description of key information

According to EU A5 criteria, as the result is below the threshold value of 60 mN/m, the substance is considered to have surface-active potential under the experimental conditions. However, since the structure is not characteristic of a true surfactant, and it is not the intended use of the substance (i.e. not a desired property), this conclusion should be taken with caution.

Additional information

Based on the chemical structure, showing no alert, and considering the substance is not intended to be used as a surfactant, no further data should be required.

However, a fully reliable experimental study, conducted according to a recognized OECD/EC method and under GLP, is available.

Therefore, it is considered as a key study, and the result is retained as key data. It should be noted that actual concentration was not checked, but calculated as 90% expected of the water solubility.
