Description of key information

The toxicity of 2-Cyanoethyl-N,N,N’,N’-tetraisopropylphosphordiamidite was tested according to OECD guidelines 201 and 202 for acute toxicity studies with aquatic invertebrates (Daphnia magna) and algae (Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata). Toxic effect on D. magna and P. subcapitata were observed. For D. magna a 48 h EC50of 22.8 mg/L and a 48 h NOEC of 0.940 mg/L were determined. P. subcapitata was slightly more sensitive than D. magna. The ErC50and NOErC for P. subcapitata were defined as 20.4 mg/L and 3.2 mg/L.

Additional information

The test item hydrolyses very quickly, and the first hydrolysis product reacts further resulting in a continuous change in hydrolysis products. Therefore, it is not possible to focus on one single hydrolysis product for toxicity testing. In addition, no major and stable hydrolysis product could be found. On basis of several preliminary test and in accordance with OECD guidance document 23 the test solutions were prepared. Regarding analytical verification, a TOC method was chosen to include the test item and all its hydrolysis products.

Further details on the reaction of the test item in water is presented in the according endpoints 6.1.3, 6.1.5, and 5.1.2.
