Description of key information

No studies on skin sensitization with potassium propan-2-olate are available. According to the REACh Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex VII, column 2 point 8.3 a study on skin sensitization does not need to be conducted if the substance is classified for skin corrosion. The test substance is classified as skin corrosive based on the available information and is used as a transported intermediate. According to REACh regulation 1907/2006, Article 18, further testing is not required.

Justification for classification or non-classification

In contact with water the substance hydrolyses rapidly and forms n-butanol and potassium hydroxide. These two hydrolysis products are both not classified as skin sensitizer according to Annex VI of the CLP regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.

Thus a classification of the substance for sensitizing potential is not warranted.
