Description of key information

The substance, benzidine-2,2'-disulphonic acid, is not expected to have bioaccumulation potential based on estimation results supported by the facts of physicochemical parameters and bio-accumulation potential of the substance.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Bioaccumulation potential:
low bioaccumulation potential

Additional information

Details on absorption

The absorption capacity of benzidine-2,2'-disulphonic acid through inhalation route is low (given the extremely low vapour pressure). Absorption through the oral route is also likely to be low given the use of this chemical which is used for the preparation of other chemicals. Thus, dermal route is the most likely route of absorption. However, absorption through the dermal route is expected to be low given the particle size of the chemical which varies from 75 to 150 micrometer in size

Details on distribution in tissues

In case, the chemical, benzidine-2,2'-disulphonic acid, is absorbed (though in small quantity) it shall not be easily distributed to various parts of the body through blood since the solubility of this chemical in water is moderate. It could be distributed in the lipids within the living system (given its higher solubility in organic solvents). However, since the bio-concentration factor (BCF) of the chemical is very low (ranging from 1.12 to 3.2), it will not be accumulated in the body.

Details on excretion

Further to this distribution after the absorption process, the excretion process through urine would be faster as the molecular weight of the substance, benzidine-2,2'-disulphonic acid, is > 300 and this is normally a favorable value for excretion via the urine route. Some amount of the absorbed chemical can also be excreted through the bile and feaces as the bio-accumulation potential of this chemical is low.
