Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove from area and seek medical advice.
Emergency measure - Eyes: Wash with plenty of water. If irritation persists seek
medical advice.
Emergency measure - Skin: Wash with plenty of soap and water. Remove contaminated
clothes.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Keep the patient at rest, seek medical advice.
Fire-fighting measures
Recommended extinguishing agent: Use water spray to cool surfaces exposed to heat and
protect personnel. Stop the leak when it can be done
without danger. Extinguish with foam, powder or water
spray. Avoid spraying water directly into the storage tank
in order to avoid spreading the product.
Accidental release measures
Emergency measures in case of spillage: On Soil: Contain the spead of liquid with sand or earth.
Suck up the liquid or absorb with a non combustible
absorbant. Consult a specialist with regard to the
destination of the recovered product. On Water: If possible
prevent the spread of the product. Clean the surface of the
water by skimming with adapted absorbants. In running
water, with the approval of the local authorities, use
agents capable of dispersing or precipitating the film.
Handling and storage
Handling: Keep equipment on the ground. For pipes to load the product
use PTFE, polysulphides (THIOKOLS), Viton type copolymers,
copper or bronze. Do not use natural rubber,SBR, butyl and
neoprene rubber. When charging or discharging put the
receptacle on the ground. Use protective clothing, glasses
and gloves.
Storage: Store on the ground. Advisable materials: carbon steel or
stainless steel, coatings of zinc, epoxy phenolic resins,
epoxy polyamides, amine epoxides. Prohibited materials:
coatings of plastics and rubbers as in 2.3.1.

Stability and reactivity
Danger other than fire: Contact of the product with water gives no reaction. Avoid
contact with oxidising agents, nitric acid, sulphuric acid
as the reactions can be strongly exothermic.
Disposal considerations
Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery for recycling is not possible except if the
product is used in transformers (regeneration of oils
used).
