Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove to fresh air, symptomatic treatment.
Emergency measure - Eyes: Rinse with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, seek
medical attention.
Emergency measure - Skin: Wash with plenty of water. If irritation persists or
commences seek medical attention.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Symptomatic treatment, seek medical attention.
Fire-fighting measures
Recommended extinguishing agent: Combustion products may contain carbon and sulphur oxides
together with some tin oxide smoke. A self-contained
breathing apparatus should be worn. Suitable extinguishing
agents are water mist, foam or dry powder.
Accidental release measures
Emergency measures in case of spillage: Powder: Sweep up spillages and transfer to waste
containers. Solutions: Contain spill, absorb solutions
using suitable dry agents (eg sand, earth, etc), Sweep up
and transfer to waste containers. Dispose of waste at an
authorised landfill or by incineration.
Handling and storage
Handling: Handling should be carried out under conditions of good
industrial hygiene. Ensure that the workplace is well
ventilated, wear eye protection and acid resistant gloves.
Avoid breathing dust; if the powder is to be handled wear a
suitable respirator (eg BS 2092, Grade 1) with full
facemask. In general, the substance will be handled as an
aqueous solution.
Storage: No special precuations.
