First-aid measures

General: Always seek medical attention. Do not delay treatment of exposed individuals, death may result.
Inhalation : Bring the victim(s) into fresh air and place in a stable position. Transport to hospital (send this Safety Data Sheet with the patient).
Skin : If available, jump immediately into an emergency bath with an aqueous solution of NaHCO3(7-9%) and stay for at least 30 minutes at temperature 30°C whilst taking off clothing and shoes. If a bath is not available, take an emergency shower. Shower for at least 15 minutes with lukewarm water (ca. 30°C).
Eye : Causes injury to the cornea and eyelids. Rinse immediately and as long as possible with plenty of water. Eyelids should be held away from the eyeball to ensure thorough rinsing. Always seek medical advice.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media ; alcohol resistant foam, Carbon dioxide (CO2), dry chemical powder, water
Unsuitable extinguishing media : none known
Hazardous decomposition / combustion products : Formation of hydrogen chloride, formaldehyde and carbon monoxide, but no phosgene (In contact with open fire).
Protective equipment : Use self-contained respiratory equipment and acid-resistant clothing.
Other information : Water used to extinguish a fire should not be allowed to enter public water systems in case of (S)MCA leakage.
Fire and explosion hazard : MCA is explosive at higher temperature when mixed with air (flash point 126°C). In case of fire and/or explosion do not breathe fumes.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions : Avoid contact with mouth, skin and eyes. Do not breathe dust. Do not eat, drink or smoke when using this product. Wear protective gloves/protectiveclothing/eye protection/face protection. For personal protection see also Section Exposure controls/personal protection.
Environmental precautions : Do not allow to enter drains or water courses. When the product contaminates public waters, inform appropriate authorities in accordance with local regulations.
Methods for cleaning up: Collect as much as possible in a clean container for (preferable) reuse or disposal. Neutralize surrounding with Na2CO3/NaHCO3. Flush surroundings with large amounts of water.

Handling and storage

Handling : Handle in well ventilated areas. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. Install a thermostatically controlled (30°C) emergency bath with a saturated ( 7-9%) sodium bicarbonate solution wherever this product is handled.

Storage requirements : Store in a dry and cool place ( relative humidity < 40%). Store in Stainless steel 316, PVC, polyethylene or glass-lined equipment. Do not store in direct sunlight.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Manufacture and Uses of MCAA : Human Health; Workers. Safe uses can be guaranteed for working conditions as mentioned in the exposure scenarios in Chapter 10, in combination with the Risk Management Measures mentioned below

Use of the prescribed gloves are used (preferably butyl rubber or PVC (type Snorkel)), with intensive management supervision control. Plus use of LEV (local exhaust ventilation) with an efficiency of 90%. Plus personal breathing protection (half mask).

Stability and reactivity

Conditions to avoid : Reaction with alkaline substance ( bases) and amines.
Stability : Thermal decomposition above 250 °C.
Incompatibles : Might react violently with non-precious metals, producing hydrogen. Danger of explosion: Strong bases, strong oxidising agents, amines. Exothermic reactions may occur with: alcohols.
Hazardous decomposition products : Formation of hydrogen chloride, formaldehyde and carbon monoxide, but no phosgene. See also section FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES.

Disposal considerations

Product : According to local regulations ( controlled incineration ).
Contaminated packaging : According to local regulations ( controlled incineration ).
