Description of key information

In accordance with point 7.8, Column 2 (Specific rules for adaptation from Column 1), Annex VII of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 (REACH), this study does not need to be conducted if the substance has a high surface activity. The surface tension of the substance was determined to be 29.8 mN/m, and based on an assessment of the emulsification properties and chemical structure, the substance was determined to be surface active. Testing for this endpoint can therefore be omitted, since the substance is a surface active material and testing is not technically feasible.

Additional information

It was not possible to determine the log Pow of the registered substance due to its surface activity, however the log Pow of the structural analogue, sodium N-myristoyl-L-glutamate, was available.

Butler (2008) has been provided as supporting data, where the partition coefficient of the test material was determined in a study using the shake-flask method. Under the conditions of the test, the partition coefficient was determined to be in the range of 8.50 x 10-2to 0.261, log Pow, -1.08 to -0.571.

The study was performed under GLP conditions and in line with the standardised guideline EU Method A.8, and was assigned a reliability score of 2 in accordance with Klimisch (1997).

Based on the structural similarities between the two substances the registered substance is also expected to have a similar log Pow. The log Pow was reported to be -0.571 based on a worst case estimate.
