Three tests were conducted to assess the biodegradability of FR-245:

1. A ready biodegradability test was conducted according to the method: ‘Testing methods for new chemicals substances. Kanpogyo No. 5 (EA), Yakuhatu No. 615 (MHW), Kikyoku No. 392 (MITI)’. After 28 days, only 6% degradation was observed. 

2. An inherent biodegradation study was conducted according to the method OECD Guideline 302 D (Inherent Biodegradability - Concawe Test) using pre-exposed inoculum. The extent of biodegradation was determined by measuring CO2 evolution resulting from the ultimate biodegradation of the test compound. The study results showed 4 % degradation after 74 days.

3.The aerobic and anaerobic transformation of 14C radio labeled FR-245 in aquatic sediment systems was investigated. The studies were performed according to OECD Guideline 308 (Aerobic and Anaerobic Transformation in Aquatic Sediment Systems). The test substance was applied directly to the sediments of two systems, river and pond. For the aerobic aquatic system, DT50 values of 472 and 592 days were calculated for the river and pond sediment, respectively. For the anaerobic aquatic system, DT50 values of 252 and 462 days were calculated for the river and pond sediment, respectively.

Since the DT50 under both conditions exceed 180 days, FR-245 can be considered as very persistent (vP).
