n-butyronitrile exhibits less than 10% abiotic hydrolysis after 5 days at 50 C, equivalent to a half-life greater than 1 year at 25 C. In an OECD 301D ready biodegradation study the substance shows significant ultimate biodegradation, 69% degradation after 28 days, but failed to meet the 10 day window criterion to be considered readily biodegradable. Based upon a log Kow of 0.401, the substance is expected to have a low potential to bioaccumulate, and a low potential for adsorption.
