Additional information

The long term toxicity to freshwater fish has been determined in an early-life stage study, Madsen & Bussard (1999), using fertilised Oncorhynchus mykiss embryos. The embryos were continuously exposed to the test material at measured concentrations of 0.601, 1.23, 2.44, 4.80 and 9.52 mg/L under flow-through conditions. Under the conditions of the test there was no statistically significant (p ≤ 0.05) reduction in egg hatchability and survival at any of the tested concentrations. In the 1.23 mg/L exposure group the mean length and weight at 60 Days post hatch, were significantly reduced when compared to the dilution water control. However, this significance was considered to be an aberrant effect, due to the lack of a dose response pattern, i.e. significant effects were not observed at concentrations ≥ 2.44 mg/L. Based on the lack of survival effects the NOEC was determined to be 9.52 mg/L and the LOEC was > 9.52 mg/L. The study was performed according to GLP, in line with standardised guidelines, with a high standard of reporting and has thus been assigned a reliability score of 1 in line with the principles for assessing data quality set out by Klimisch (1997). The available data are considered to be complete and the conclusion for long term toxicity to freshwater fish, NOEC 9.52 mg/L (reported as mg ai/L, active ingredient, values were corrected for sample purity), was taken forward for risk assessment.
