Sampling and analysis

Analytical monitoring:
yes
Details on sampling:
- Concentrations: all concentrations
- Sample storage conditions before analysis: Samples were placed in glass vials with formic acid, and then diluted with Elendt M4 medium to 5 mL. 50 uL of internal standard was then added, and the sample extracted with hexane.

Test solutions

Vehicle:
no
Details on test solutions:
PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF TEST SOLUTION (especially for difficult test substances)
- Method: The test substance was added to brown sterile bottles and Elendt M4 medium was added with a sterilized stir bar. The test solution was then stirred for 72 hrs. It was then allowed to settle for 1 hr. Since the test substance had a higher density than water, it settled to the bottom of the flask. The settled test substance in the bottom 200 mL was drawn off, and the test solution taken from the higher water layer saturated with test substance.
- Evidence of undissolved material (e.g. precipitate, surface film, etc.): At higher concentration some precipitate may have formed.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Conclusions:
The 48-hr EC50 for daphnids was 9.06 mg/L.
Executive summary:

An OECD Guideline 202 aquatic invertebrate toxicity study was performed. Five daphnids were exposed to each concentration, with four replicates per concentration. The measured concentrations tested were below the limit of quantification, 1.20, 3.07, 8.05, and 18.44 mg/L. Daphnids at the 8.05 mg/L concentration showed less activity than at lower concentrations or controls. The NOEC was determined to be 3.07 mg/L based on active ingredient. The EC50 was determined to be 9.06 mg/L.
