An evaluation of the functionality within the substance has been performed to identify the presence of elements commonly associated with oxidising behaviour. Indium phosphide and the raw materials used to manufacture the substance do not contain oxygen or halogens and therefore the classification procedure does not apply.

Furthermore, section 2.14.2 of the CLP regulation states that special consideration should be given to the particle size of the solid.

β€˜The oxidising properties of a solid depend on its particle size. Smaller particles enable a more intimate contact between the solid oxidiser and a combustible solid. The smaller the particle size, the higher the oxidising capability of the solid. As a consequence, it may happen that large particles of a certain solid are considered to be non-hazardous, will small particles of the same solid need to be classed into the hazard class of oxidising solids.’

Indium phosphide is supplied as an ingot rather than a powder. Therefore, due to the large particle size of the indium phosphide supplied, it is unlikely to be an oxidising solid.
