Description of key information

In an in vivo rabbit study (OECD 404), 0.5 mL of EDGME were applied to the shaved skin for 24 hours under occlusive conditions. The observations conducted at 24, 48 and 72 hours after application showed the formation of severe erythema and mild eschar (total mean score = 2.33) and mild edema (mean total score = 0.72) in all animals. Other effects reported after 48 hours included dry, rough and hardened skin, raised skin and greenish coloration, hematoma of the lower layers of the skin at the site of application. The signs of irritation were not reversible within the observation period.
