Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The substance belongs to a group of Natural Complex Substances (NCS) : UVCB sub-type 3, where the source is biological and the process is refinement (See ECHA Guidance on Identification and naming of substances under REACH); such as: exudates, resinoids and concretes that are well-known to be very difficult to analytically assess.

Physico-chemical properties of registered substance were determined from experimental testing, except water solubility, partition coefficient that were derived from available data on constituents in a constituents approach. Some endpoints were waived, based on chemical structure of known constituents or experience in handling and use of the substance.

The substance is a brown waxy solid at ambient temperature.

It is expected to float over water, because of its low relative density (0.980). The substance contains constituents having different water solubilities (0.0000931 - 78.3 mg test item/L at 25°C).

The substance contains constituents with different volatilities and the measured vapour pressure exhibit a volatility of 434 Pa at 20°C in the experimental conditions.

The substance is classified as FLAMMABLE SOLID Cat. 1. based on Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 (CLP regulation) . Otherwise, no other hazard was identified with regard to physical properties (flammaility liquid, explosivity, oxidising properties, self-heating substance) based on Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 (CLP regulation).

Summary of relevant physico-chemical properties:

Endpoint (method)

Data

Appearance at 20°C and 1 atm.(based on the Melting point and visual observation)

Registered substance is a brown waxy solid at 20 °C and 1 atm.

Melting/Freezing point

(OECD 102/EU A1, DSC)

Melting point = 65.4 ± 2 °C (338 ± 2 K).

Boiling point

(OECD 103/EU A2, DSC)

No boiling point temperature was determined as the test item was supposed to decompose before boiling from 240-250°C at 102.2kPa

Relative density

(OECD 109/EU A3, pycnometer)

D20/4 = 0.980.

Less dense than water.

Granulometry

(data waiving)

study scientifically not necessary (not granular powder)

Vapour pressure

(OECD 104/EU A4,

static method)

434 Pa at 20°C and 536 Pa at 25°C (interpolation)

Note that the result obtained on this kind of substance should be largely influence by small amounts of volatile constituents and these values don't represent the major part of the substance. Therefore the result should be considered with caution when used for subsequent assessment (worst case).

Log Kow

( QSAR estimations on constituents)

16 constituents (covering more than 79% of the composition) ranging between 2.5 and 7.0 at 25°C

Water solubility

(QSAR estimations on constituents)

16 components (covering more than 79% of the composition) ranging between 0.0000931 and 78.3 mg/L each at 25°C. (insoluble to soluble constituents)

Surface tension

(data waiving)

Waived based on chemical structure of the known constituents of the substance, not characteristic of true surfactants and considering that it is not the intended use of the substance (i.e. not a desired property).

Self-Ignition Temperature, Self-heating properties

(data waiving)

No self-ignition or self-heating anticipated, as solid with low melting point (MP < 160°C)

Flammability

Flash-point

(EU A9, ISO 3679, ASTM D3278, equiibrium closed cup)

Flammability (N.1 readily combustible solids)

Flammability water&air

(data waiving)

Self-heating substances/mixtures (data waiving)

Flash point = 98°C, not a flammable liquid under CLP and under GHS.

Note that the result obtained on this kind of substance should be largely influence by small amounts of volatile constituents and the result doesn't represent the major part of the substance.

Under the test conditions, the substance burns over 100mm within less than 45 seconds and the flame passes the wetted zone.

The substance is classified as

FLAMMABLE SOLID Cat. 1. under CLP & GHS.

Waived based on experience in handling and use and chemical structure of known constituents of the substance.

NOT flammable if contact with air or water

Waived based on low melting point.

NO self-heating substance anticipated.

Explosive properties

(data waiving)

Waiving based on experience on this type of substance and chemical structure of known constituents.

Low potential for explosive properties

Oxidising properties

(data waiving)

Waiving based on chemical structure of known constituents of the substance, Flammability and technical issue to conduct the test.

Registered substance is considered to have low potential for oxidizing properties.

Slight variations are possible with composition (UVCB substance).
