Materials and methods
Test guideline
- Qualifier:
- no guideline followed
- Principles of method if other than guideline:
- The germination tests were carried out according to Reynolds (1975a, 1977). The germination tests were carried out for a period of 3 d at 30°C. Twenty lettuce fruits were sown on 0.5% agar in polystyrene pots (2.8 x 3.5 cm) closed by lids floating in the water baths. The inhibitory activity of the test item producing 50% inhibition of germination was determined in five replicates.

- Conclusions:
- The toxicity of Hydantoine to lettuce (Lactuca sativa cv. Great Lakes) was examined in laboratory studies using agar as growth medium. Lactuca sativa was exposed to the test item in sealed plastic containers for 3 d at 30°C and the concentration causing an 50% inhibition of germination was determined. The nominal EC50 was determined to be 67 mol/m3.
