Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Aquatic toxicity studies with magnesium diniobate are not available, thus aquatic toxicity will be addressed with existing data on the dissociation products, i.e. magnesium and niobium ions.

Magnesium: Magnesium as an essential element has a very low potential for toxicity to aquatic microorganisms.

Niobium: displays a very low mobility under all but the most extreme environmental conditions due to the high stability and very low solubility of niobium oxides. In the GLP-conform sludge respiration inhibition test according to OECD 209 with diniobium pentaoxide, a 3h-EC50 value of > 100 mg/L (corresponding to > 70 mg Nb/L) was estimated.

Magnesium diniobate: Toxicity to aquatic microorganisms is unlikely to occur since toxicity was not observed for magnesium and niobium, respectively, at the highest concentration tested.
