Additional information

mmt is acutely toxic to aquatic organisms. A 96h-LC50 of 0.21 mg/l was derived from a short-term toxicity in fish. mmt was also toxic to Daphnids and algae, with EC50s of 0.83 mg/l and 1.7 mg/l (growth rate), respectively.

For acute classification purposes, the lowest LC50 or 0.21 mg/l (acute fish toxicity) was considered. In accordance with EC/1272/2008, mmt is classified as an Acute Aquatic Category 1 toxicant. The Hazard Statement associated with this classifications is ‘H400: Very toxic to aquatic life’.

A NOEC of 0.07 mg/l (growth rate reduction and yield inhibition) was derived from the algae study.

For chronic classification purposes, the algal NOEC of 0.07 was used. This in conjunction with the fact that mmt is not biodegradable (see section 5.2 of the IUCLID data set) result in a classification per EC/1272/2008 as a Chronic Aquatic Category 1 toxicant. The Hazard statement associated with this classification is ‘H410: Very toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects’.
