Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

Reference
Name:
4-[[2-Methoxy-4-[(4-nitrophenyl)azo]phenyl]azo]phenol
Type of composition:
boundary composition of the substance
State / form:
solid: particulate/powder
Reference substance:
4-[[2-Methoxy-4-[(4-nitrophenyl)azo]phenyl]azo]phenol
PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The test substance is neither P nor T. The measured partition coefficient n-octanol/water of the test substance was determined at 5.2 (20°C), which is above the ECHA guidance cutoff ‘B’ criteria. Considering the low water solubility value of <0.04 mg/L (20°C), there is no exposure expected to any aquatic organisms. Additionally, looking at the influence of lipid solubility on the bioconcentration of hydrophobic compounds which demonstrate a decrease in lipid solubility with increasing Kow values (Chessellset al., 1992) for super hydrophobic compounds, it can be assumed that it will lead to reduced BCFs. The calculated BCF for fish based on the log Kow of 5.2 with regression basis is 1.0 (10 L/kg; BCFBAF v.3.01). The highest calculated log BCF according to the Arnot-Gobas method considering biotransformation is 3.1 (1371 L/kg; lower trophic level; BCFBAF v3.01). In conclusion, the substance is not expected to accumulate significantly in aquatic organisms. The test substance neither fulfils the B nor the vB criterion. In conclusion, the substance is not PBT or vPvB.
