First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures

Remove contaminated clothing. If the patient is likely to become unconscious, place and transport in stable sideways position (recovery position). First aid personnel should pay attention to their own safety.

If inhaled:

Keep patient calm, remove to fresh air, seek medical attention.

On skin contact:

No hazards anticipated. Wash off thoroughly with ample water.

On contact with eyes:

Wash affected eyes for at least 15 minutes under running water with eyelids held open, consult an eye specialist.

On ingestion:

Rinse mouth immediately and then drink plenty of water, seek medical attention.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

Symptoms: headache, giddiness, sickness, incoordination, stupor, unconsciousness

Hazards: Danger of drowsiness and dizziness. Risk of respiratory disorders.

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed

Treatment: Treat according to symptoms (decontamination, vital functions), no known specific antidote.

Fire-fighting measures

Extinguishing media

Suitable extinguishing media:

water spray

Additional information:

Use extinguishing measures to suit surroundings.

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture

Do not breathe gas/vapour. Risk of explosion at excessive temperatures.

Nitrous gases

The substances/groups of substances mentioned can be released in case of fire.

Advice for fire-fighters

Special protective equipment:

Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical-protective clothing.

Further information:

If exposed to fire, keep containers cool by spraying with water. Dispose of fire debris and contaminated extinguishing water in accordance with official regulations.

Accidental release measures

Shut off or stop released substance/product under safe conditions.

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Leave the danger area immediately. Breathing protection required. Ensure adequate ventilation. Avoid all sources of ignition: heat, sparks, open flame.

Environmental precautions

Discharge into the environment must be avoided.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

Ensure adequate ventilation.

Reference to other sections

Information regarding exposure controls/personal protection and disposal considerations can be found in section "Exposure controls / personal protection" and "Disposal considerations".

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

Do not use grease or other combustible lubricants, do not grease armatures. Handle with care - avoid bumps, friction and impact. Ensure thorough ventilation of stores and work areas.

Protection against fire and explosion:

Prevent electrostatic charge - sources of ignition should be kept well clear - fire extinguishers should be kept handy.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Further information on storage conditions: Keep in a cool, well-ventilated place. Store only in containers suitable for pressurized gas.

Specific end use(s)

For the relevant identified use(s) listed in Section 1 of the safety data sheet the advice mentioned in this section is to be observed.

Exposure controls

Personal protective equipment

Respiratory protection:

Breathing protection if gases/vapours are formed. Self-contained breathing apparatus.

Hand protection:

When there is a risk of frostbite from escaping gas, use thermally insulated gloves (EN 511).

Eye protection:

Tightly fitting safety goggles (splash goggles) (e.g. EN 166)

Body protection:

Body protection must be chosen depending on activity and possible exposure, e.g. apron, protecting boots, chemical-protection suit (according to EN 14605 in case of splashes or EN ISO 13982 in case of dust).

General safety and hygiene measures

Do not breathe gas.
