- Details on test solutions:
- Starting with a concentration of 100 mg/L. Magnetic stirring for 1 hour (comb. limit/range-finding) or 1.25 hour (final test) resulted in a completely dissolved solution. - TEST ORGANISM
- Common name: Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata
- Strain: NIVA CHL 1
- Source (laboratory, culture collection): in house culture
- Method of cultivation: Algae stock cultures were started by inoculating growth medium with algal cells from a pure culture on agar. The suspensions were continuously aerated and exposed to light in a climate room at a temperature of 21-24°C.
- Inoculum medium: M1
Acclimatisation:
3 days before the start of the test, cells from the algal stock culture were inoculated in culture medium at a cell density of 1 x 104 cells/mL. The pre-culture was maintained under the same conditions as used in the test. The cell density was measured immediately before use.
Pre-culture medium M2; according to the OECD 201 Guideline

Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Validity criteria fulfilled:
- yes
- Conclusions:
- The 72h-ERC50 was 2.4 mg/L
- Executive summary:
In a test according to OECD 201, algae were exposed to 0, 0.10, 0.32, 1.0, 3.2 and 10 mg/L (measured 72h TWA: ND, 0.035, 0.17, 0.60, 1.9 and 6.1 mg/L). A significant decrease of biomass was observed at 0.17 mg/L and above, while growth rate was significantly decreased (and biologically relevant) at 0.60 mg/L. 72h-ERC50 was 2.4 mg/L based on TWA measured concentrations..
