Reference
Endpoint:
water solubility
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: GLP status not known, non-guideline experimental study, limitations in design and/or reporting but otherwise adequate for assessment.
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
A saturated solution of the test item in water was prepared. A volume of this solution was then removed and diluted with an aliquot of water before analysis by ICP-OES. The PGM content of the solution is back-calculated from the ICP-OES result.
GLP compliance:
not specified
Type of method:
flask method
Water solubility:
240 other: g tetraammineplatinum dichloride/ kg solution
Temp.:
20 °C
Remarks on result:
other: pH; not reported; temperature: room temperature, nominally 20°C
Details on results:
As a determination of the solution density has not been performed the results are in g per kg solution not g/L.

Results table

 Product  CAS  PGM-content (%)  sat. Solution (g)  Water added (g)  PGM cont (%)  Solubility (g product/kg solution)
 Tetraammineplatinum dichloride  13933-32-9  55.8  6.06  5.68 6.9 240
Conclusions:
The solubility of tetraammineplatinum dichloride has been reported as 240 g tetraammineplatinum dichloride/Kg solution.
Executive summary:

This is a non-GLP, non-guideline experimental study. Although there are some limitations in the design or reporting of the study, the method used is considered to be acceptable and therefore the study is considered to be adequate for assessment of this endpoint. The solubility of tetraammineplatinum dichloride has been reported as 240 g tetraammineplatinum dichloride/Kg solution.

Description of key information

The solubility of tetraamminplatinum dichloride is 240 g product/kg solution.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Water solubility:
240 g/L
at the temperature of:
20 °C

Additional information

The results are from a non-guideline experimental study (Winde 2011). There are some limitations in the design or reporting of the study but the method followed is considered to be acceptable and therefore this study is considered to be adequate for assessment of this endpoint. The solubility of tetraammineplatinum dichloride has been reported as 240 g product/kg solution at room temperature.

This is supported by data from a reliable handbook that states that tetraammine platinum dichloride is soluble (Lewis 2007).
