As no study is available for assessing the biodegradability of the substance, a read-across to structurally related Alkyl Dimethyl Betaines was applied, in accordance to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5 Grouping of substances. The read across is justified due to the structural similarity of the analogue substances and similar physico-chemical properties resulting in a similar environmental fate and ecotoxicity profile. Further justification is given in the analogue justification attached to section 13 in IUCLID.

Based on experimental studies the substance can be considered as readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria. Hydrolysis is not relevant in regard to abiotic degradation in the environment due to the readily biodegradability of the test substance. Due to the experimental determined log Kow of 2.73 a significant bioaccumulation in aquatic organisms and high adsorption potential to organic soil and sediment particles is not expected which is supported by a calculated log Koc of 2.4.
