Description of key information

The submission substance hydrolyses very rapidly (half-lives of =0.2 minutes at pH 4 and pH 9, =0.3 minutes at pH 7 and 2°C) and within the timescale of a ready biodegradation study to methanol and (poly)silicic acid with silanetriol as an intermediate hydrolysis product.

Methanol is readily biodegradable (OECD 2004).

Silanetriol and (poly)silicic acid are inorganic, therefore in accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex VII, there is no need to conduct the ready biodegradation study.
