Description of key information

In the key study for skin irritation (Sinojie, 2008), which was summarized on the MSDS, it was concluded that 2-bromopropane causes skin irritation.
In the key study for eye irritation (CIT, 1994), which was conducted according to appropriate OECD 405 and to GLP, it was concluded that 2-bromopropane was not irritating to the eyes of rabbits.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

For skin and eye irritation, the most recent reliable study was selected as the key study.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based upon the available study for skin irritation, 2-bromopropane should be classified as Category 2: Irritant as described in EC No 1272/2008. Insufficient data are available to support labeling as R38 (Irritating to Skin).

The available data show that 2-bromopropane does not require classification for eye irritation.
