Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

A single study to investigate the effects of o-xylene on soil microorganisms was identified. This study reported a 10 hour EC50 of 220 mg/kg nominal. Although this study does not follow the standard guidelines for measuring respiration inhibition of soil microorganisms it is well documented and scientifically acceptable. The test design uses a closed system and analytical monitoring. The exposure period is only 10 hours compared to the standard 28 days. Therefore, although we consider this test reliable, this study will not be used to derive the PNEC in the risk assessment.

The final decision letter from ECHA on the xylene isomers requested that this endpoint is completed using novel experimental data. Testing of the xylene isomers for this endpoint is currently ongoing and the dossier will be updated to include the result of this testing once it is complete.
