Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The auto-ignition temperature of dimethyl sulphate is 450 °C at 1013 hPa.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Autoflammability / Self-ignition temperature at 101 325 Pa:
450 °C

Additional information

A literature review was conducted. In a weight of evidence approach the literature values and the value from a BASF study were evaluated. The BASF study and the GESTIS Substance database reports the auto-ignition temperature to be 450 °C at ambient pressure.

The IPCS International Programme on Chemical Safety and the Knovel - A Properties database reports the auto-ignition temperature to be 470°C at 1013 hPa. Four independent sources report the auto-ignition temperature in the same range. Thus, in a worst-case view an auto-ignition temperature of 450 °C at 1013 hPa was regarded to be reliable for dimethyl sulphate.
