Description of key information

Flammability:
3-hydroxy-2-(3-hydroxy-2-quinolyl)-1H-inden-1-one melted when approached by the ignition flame.
3-hydroxy-2-(3-hydroxy-2-quinolyl)-1H-inden-1-one did not burn up. No further testing was required.
3-hydroxy-2-(3-hydroxy-2-quinolyl)-1H-inden-1-one is classified as a not readily combustible solid when tested according to UNRTDG Procedure N. 1.
Pyrophoric properties:
3-hydroxy-2-(3-hydroxy-2-quinolyl)-1H-inden-1-one did not deliver indications of pyrophoric properties during the realization of other tests.
The determination according to UN-RTDG Procedure N. 2 is not necessary.
3-hydroxy-2-(3-hydroxy-2-quinolyl)-1H-inden-1-one has no pyrophoric properties.
Contact with water:
The structural formula of 3-hydroxy-2-(3-hydroxy-2-quinolyl)-1H-inden-1-one contains none of the functional groups quoted in UN-RTDG ‘Manual of Tests and Criteria’ (appendix 6, article 5.3) which may react with water to emit flammable gases.
Therefore, it can be concluded by expert judgement that 3-hydroxy-2-(3-hydroxy-2-quinolyl)-1H-inden-1-one does not emit flammable gases in contact with water. The determination according to UN-RTDG Procedure N. 5 is not necessary.
Self-reactive substance:
It can be concluded that 3-hydroxy-2-(3-hydroxy-2-quinolyl)-1H-inden-1-one is not self-reactive in the sense of CLP Annex I, 2.8. The determination according to UN-RTDG Procedure H.4 (SADT) is not necessary.
Self-heating substances and mixtures:
No exothermic effects were determined up to the point at which 3-hydroxy-2-(3-hydroxy-2-quinolyl)-1H-inden-1-one melted.
The wire mesh basket was empty after the measurement.
3-hydroxy-2-(3-hydroxy-2-quinolyl)-1H-inden-1-one is not a self-heating substance in the sense of CLP Annex I, 2.11. The determination according to UN-RTDG Procedure N.4 (Bowes-Cameron-Cage-Test) is not necessary.

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

3-hydroxy-2-(3-hydroxy-2-quinolyl)-1H-inden-1-one is not yet classified in the Annex I of Directive 67/548/EEC. According to the information summarized in this below, no classification on flammability is needed:

- As liquid, no flash point up to 249 °C;

- As liquid, boiling point is higher than 300 °C;

- No pyrophoric property, based on experience from production and handling;

- It does not ignite spontaneously with water and does not liberate flammable gases in hazardous amounts in contact with water.

Based on the data summarized above, 3-hydroxy-2-(3-hydroxy-2-quinolyl)-1H-inden-1-one is also not flammable according to GHS (Regulation EC 1272/2008).
