Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Justification for type of information:
The high self-ignition values reported for powders of other tungsten compounds support the conclusion that self-heating is not a relevant hazard for this compound (>300 °C for tungsten carbide, as mentioned in OECD SIDS report for Tungsten Carbide, 2005)

Description of key information

Inorganic oxides in which the inorganic element is in its highest possible oxidation state are incapable of further reaction with oxygen, with no potential for ignition.

Tungsten is in its highest possible oxidation state (VI) in this compound and is incapable of further reaction with oxygen. Therefore, the substance is therefore not expected to ignite and self-heating property is not considered relevant for this substance.

Key value for chemical safety assessment
