Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids)
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

The pile glowed red but failed to ignite during the five minutes that the Bunsen flame was applied. The glowing section failed to propagate combustion. The test item had turned yellow. The result of the preliminary screening test obviated the need to perform the definitive test.

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
The test item is not classified as a flammable solid under the conditions of the test.

Description of key information

The flammability was determined by measuring the burning rate of test item prepared as a pile of set dimensions. Testing was conducted using a procedure designed to be compatible with Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 of 16 December 2008 on classification, labelling and packaging of substances and mixtures and Method N.1 of United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Manual of Tests and Criteria, Fifth revised edition, 2009.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

No ignition or propagation of combustion occured in a preliminary screening test and accordingly the substance was not classified as a flammable solid in accordance with the CLP Regulation (EC No. 1272/2008, as amended).
