- Test temperature: 22.1-23.5 degrees C
- pH: 7.4
- pH adjusted: yes
- Suspended solids concentration: 30 mg/L

TEST SYSTEM
- Culturing apparatus: Oxitop flasks
- Number of culture flasks/concentration: 2
- Measuring equipment: Oxitop flasks
- Details of trap for CO2 and volatile organics if used: Carbon dioxide is absorbed by sodium hydroxide pellets, and the resulting drop in pressure is measured.

SAMPLING
- Sampling frequency: The Oxitop system provides continuous automatic monitoring.
- Sampling method: Automated Oxitop system which provides continuous monitoring of pressure inside the flask without opening it.

CONTROL AND BLANK SYSTEM

Results and discussion

Test performance:
The reference substance degraded 40% after 7 days, and 65% after 14 days. No more than 20% difference between replicates were noted. The test is thus valid.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Validity criteria fulfilled:
yes
Interpretation of results:
readily biodegradable
Conclusions:
The test substance biodegraded 72% in 28 days, and met the 10-day window requirement. It is therefore readily biodegradable.
Executive summary:

The biodegradability of the test substance was determined in an OECD Guideline 301F study. 30 mg/L of test substance was monitored for biodegradation by activated sludge for 34 days. Sodium benzoate was used as a reference substance. The oxygen consumption was monitored during this time. The reference substance results met the validity criteria. The test substance biodegraded 72% in 28 days, and met the 10-day window requirement.  It is therefore readily biodegradable.
