Additional information

There are no bioaccumulation/bioconcentration studies available for CPSS 53. CPSS 53 is a multiconstituent substance containing the two major components Octadecanoic acid 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-4-ol ester (approx. 48%) and Hexadecanoic acid 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-4-ol ester (approx. 47%). Also for the main components bioaccumulation/bioconcentration studies are not available.

Both main constituents have low water solubility and a high logPow (calculated with EPIWIN). The calculated logPow for Octadecanoic acid 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-4-ol ester is 9.81 whereas the calculated logPow for Hexadecanoic acid 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-4-ol ester is 8.82. Therefore both main components have a logPow > 4.5 and based on the screening criteria for PBT/vPvB assessment bioaccumulative properties could not be excluded (according to the Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.11: PBT Assessment).

The calculated BCFs (EPIWIN; BCFBAF v.3.0) for Octadecanoic acid 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-4-ol ester and Hexadecanoic acid 2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-4-ol ester are 142 and 431 respectively.

Taken all available in formation together in a weight of evidence approach and taking further into account that carboxylate ester-containing substances are expected to be readily metabolized in fish further reducing the concentration of the main components of CPSS 53 significantly it is concluded that CPSS 53 does not fulfill the B criterion.
