Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable liquids: obsolete as covered by section 'Flash point'
Type of information:
read-across from supporting substance (structural analogue or surrogate)
Remarks:
Estimated by calculation
Adequacy of study:
weight of evidence
Reliability:
2 (reliable with restrictions)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
other: Calculation
Justification for type of information:
A discussion and report on the read across strategy is given as an attachment in IUCLID Section 13.
Reason / purpose for cross-reference:
read-across: supporting information
Qualifier:
no guideline followed
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Estimated by calculation
GLP compliance:
not specified
Interpretation of results:
other: Non flammable
Remarks:
on the basis of flash point value
Conclusions:
Reported LEL and UEL are respectively 0.6 % and 7.0 % v/v.
Executive summary:

The lower explosive limit and upper explosive limit of the substance Hydrocarbons, C11-C14, n-alkanes, <2% aromatics have been estimated by calculation as respectively 0.6 and 7.0 % v/v.

The flash point being higher than 60°C, the substance is considered as non flammable.

Considering the chemical structure and the experience in handling and use, pyrophoric properties and flammability on contact with water can be ruled out for this substance.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Data waiving:
study technically not feasible
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is a liquid

Description of key information

There is no data available for Hydrocarbons, C10-C14, n-alkanes, <2% aromatics. However, data is available for structural analogue Hydrocarbons, C11-C14, n-alkanes, <2% aromatics and presented in the dossier. This data is read across to Hydrocarbons, C10-C14, n-alkanes, <2% aromatics based on analogue read across. A discussion and report on the read across strategy is provided as an attachment in IUCLID Section 13.

The lower explosive limit and upper explosive limit of the substance Hydrocarbons, C11-C14, n-alkanes, <2% aromatics have been established by calculation as respectively 0.6 and 7.0 % v/v.

Additional information

According to REACH guidance R7a, the flammability of liquids is determined on basis of their flashpoint (in combination with their boiling point), their ability to emit flammable gases upon contact with water and their pyrophoricity. The flash point being higher than 60°C (see section 4.11), this substance is considered as non flammable (CLP Regulation CE 1272/2008).

The molecular structure of the constituents does not contain groups that indicate potential reactivity with water or pyrophoric properties and the experience in handling and use of this substance indicates that this is the case.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The flash point is > 60°C. (see section 4.11).
